Yes. If you buy multiple strings, I suggest you take out a remote control first and use the rest as a spare remote control.

2. Why do they start glowing hours after we turn them off?

Maybe you accidentally press the timer key, timer function will lights on 6 hours and off for 18 hours per day, you just press the timer key again to turn off this function.

3. If you use the timer on the remote, will it remember the last setting?

No, you no need to press any key, because the remember setting is default, the lights will remember automatically the last lights when you turn on the lights.

4. Are batteries required? Or is it just a simple wall plug in?

No, you just need to plug in the adapter which have usb conncetor, package comes with a coin battery CR2025 built-in remote control, you just need to buy the same battery if the provided battery runs out.

5. Would these be dim enough for a candle like setting?

Yes, there have 2 keys (Brightness-/+) to dim the lights, and there are 9 levels of brightness, you just need to set the brightness you want.
